ChildTechLab is an interdisciplinary initiative aimed at enabling a responsible, research-based and child-centered integration of artificial intelligence into early childhood education. Rather than focusing on a single tool or app, it provides a framework of pedagogical, technological, and ethical pillars for educators, developers and policy makers.
The five modules of ChildTechLab – M.I.N.D., E.T.I.K.A., P.L.A.Y., R.E.A.L., S.A.F.E. – each address a key area of concern, yet are designed to function as an interconnected system.
Together, they respond to essential questions:
-
What does AI do to children's development? (M.I.N.D.)
-
What values guide our decisions? (E.T.I.K.A.)
-
How can play remain meaningful and alive? (P.L.A.Y.)
-
How does the educator's role evolve? (R.E.A.L.)
-
What counts as safe and trustworthy? (S.A.F.E.)
The purpose of these modules is not to train AI for preschool use, but to empower pedagogy in the presence of AI. ChildTechLab acts as a toolkit to support informed navigation, encourage professional reflection, and foster dialogue between children, educators, and technology designers.
